As you might have guessed, we as therapists are pretty passionate about making sure people are taking care of their social and emotional health, and those nifty handheld robots that we are glued to are causing some pretty major damage to people’s social emotional heath. Soooooo what are we gonna do about it? Well, we want to start a movement to help people talk in person, by connecting face to face. How are we going to do that you ask?
Meet the movement:
#talktomyface
We want to challenge you to put your phone down and talk to your friends, your neighbors, and anyone and everyone else you can. We don’t care if you increase this by 5 minutes a day or 5 minutes an hour, but if you have time to hit the gym, or get sucked in the glorious yet not actual connecting that is social media, you have time to have a conversation FACE to FACE. It takes just 5 minutes.
You see, human connection is not a choice. People NEED connection with other people more than we even need food. The same way we feel hangry when we don’t eat, is the way our social emotional health is feeling when we are lost in technology and not connecting with other people. Its why we hear a lot about depression and other not awesome feelings, especially for young people, who have only known a world driven by technology and the false sense of connecting.
We have ideas on how to help get people off their phones (not all the time, just enough) and are happy to share some tips and tricks that can motivate people to feed their social and emotional health.
More on this coming soon!
